The 2011 Nissan Murano is five-passenger midsize SUV available in S (starting at $29.290 MSRP), SV (new for 2011 model year and starting at $32.860 MSRP), SL (starting at $36.400) and LE (starting at $38.300) trim levels. A new two-door convertible called Murano CrossCabriolet is disponible and it is the world’s first SUV convertible (at $46.390 MSRP). All trim levels come with front- or all-whell drive. The 2011 Nissan Murano competes in price and size with the Ford Edge, Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander.

2004 Isuzu Rodeo news. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been on top of corrosion issues of late, with the recent recall of Toyota Tundra models for excessive frame rust and an investigation of the Ford Windstar for a similar issue. Now it’s Isuzu and Honda’s turn under the rust recall spotlight, as the 1998-2002 Rodeo and 2002 Axiom and the Rodeo’s badge-engineered twin, the 1998-2002 Honda Passport are being recalled in cold weather climates for potential rear suspension corrosion issues.
In areas where highly corrosive materials like road salt are used to clear roads these vehicles can in some instances experience “excessive corrosion in the vicinity of the forward mounting point bracket for the left or right rear suspension lower link.” In a worst-case scenario, the corrosion could lead to the rear suspension lower link bracket detaching from the frame. And if it happens while the vehicle is in motion, handling could become compromised, leading to a potentially crash.
Owners of the affected vehicles can head to the nearest dealer (Hondas go to Honda dealers and Isuzus go to Isuzu dealers) for an inspection and possible repair. If the vehicle is observed to be relatively rust free, the rear suspension area will be treated with an anti-corrosive compound. If rust is already setting in a reinforcement bracket will be installed. If that doesn’t work, dealer technicians will cook up “an appropriate remedy.” Hit the jump to read over the NHTSA presser, which includes the states to which this recall applies.

The Jeep product portfolio will undergo some major changes in the next few years, starting with the addition of a new subcompact crossover and a flagship, seven-passenger Grand Wagoneer. Still, Jeep assures the world that even with these changes, the automaker will still stand true to its off-road heritage. That seven-slat grille has to stand for something, after all.
Jeep will debut a new subcompact crossover based on a Fiat platform in late 2013 or early 2014. The B-Jeep will be designed for use in North and Latin America, and will be built alongside the Fiat 500 and Dodge Journey at the automaker’s plant in Toluca, Mexico.
Both the Compass and Patriot will be replaced in one fell swoop with a new vehicle based on Fiat’s CUSW compact crossover platform. The new Jeep will debut in 2013, likely as a 2014 model, and will be built for global markets, including North America. In speaking to Automotive News, Jeep brand CEO Michael Manley said that this vehicle would be available with both front- and all-wheel drive.
The Liberty – a vehicle left untouched in the 2011 model year product onslaught – will get a replacement in 2013. This crossover will be built on a larger version of the Compass/Patriot platform, called CUSW Plus, and will likely remain an all-wheel-drive-only affair.
Lastly, a new Grand Wagoneer is still in the works, stemming from Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne’s confirmation earlier this year. Its platform will be shared with the Dodge Durango and will be the flagship model in the Jeep lineup. Think Commander, only better. Much better.

Toyota Tacoma to receive nip/tuck this fall. Toyota is reportedly working on a refresh for its Tacoma mid-size pickup, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. The refreshed Taco will debut in October, as part of the automaker’s plan to debut many all-new or refreshed vehicles this year. In addition to the Tacoma, the Camry and Yaris will also receive substantial overhauls for the new model year.
Bob Carter, group vice president and brand manager for Toyota, says that the 2012 Tacoma will keep the same engine and frame, but will have a new exterior design, as well as an updated interior. Currently, the Tacoma is powered by a 4.0-liter V6 that produces 236 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque.
Additionally, Carter states that the Tacoma will receive new entertainment functions, and as we reported earlier, the automaker’s new Entune infotainment system will be part of the offerings. We’ll have more details come October.

The Toyota Tacoma, the best-selling compact pickup truck in America, offers two new accessory packages for 2011 based on a concept truck first shown at the 2009 Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) Show. Toyota developed the Tacoma T|X concept truck to gauge consumer reaction at the 2009 SEMA Show. The concept featured unique dual custom graphic designs on each side of the truck, and an assortment of aggressive performance features inspired by traditional TRD elements that conveyed the lifestyle of Tacoma owners. The overwhelmingly positive reaction to the truck was a major inspiration for the development of the two new packages.
Available on a limited basis, the new T|X and T|X Pro Packages translate a sporty SEMA concept into a package the customer can add to a Tacoma V6 Access Cab or V6 Double Cab on both 4×2 PreRunner and 4×4 drive types equipped with the TRD Off-Road Package. The extra dose of performance makes it the most capable off-road Tacoma in the Toyota lineup.
The T|X Package gives the Tacoma a sporty and even semi-menacing look with TRD 16-inch black alloy bead-lock wheels and 265/70R16 BF Goodrich Rugged Trail tires. The MSRP of the T|X Package is $1,699, a savings of $754 compared to the package items ordered as separate options.

Manufactured in Indiana and unveiled in 2000, the Toyota Sequoia is a full-sized truck-based SUV. For the most part, we’re still looking off into the future when it comes to EVs. Right now, the only mass-produced electric car you can actually buy from a major manufacturer is the Nissan Leaf. But next year, the market will be crawling with them. Toyota will have three if you count the plug-in: the Scion iQ, the plug-in Toyota Prius and the Toyota RAV4 EV.
We had a long-term plug-in Prius prototype a few months ago. We haven’t driven the iQ yet, and this week, we got to drive a five-mile suburban loop in a RAV4 EV prototype. We found it just about ready for market right now.
But we’re easier to please than Toyota, apparently. The production version of the RAV4 EV won’t arrive for another year, but the prototype was so close to production standards that other car companies could learn a lot from Toyota.
Both Tesla and Toyota are hoping to learn from each other in this partnership. Tesla, which makes the powertrain for this battery-electric car in a partnership with Toyota, is hoping to learn about manufacturing. Toyota, for its part, is hoping to learn about electric cars and also about how to make a corporate decision in less than two years and with fewer than 16 layers of management, each layer of which is desperately trying to preserve its job and not rock the boat.
It could be a marriage made in heaven, or at least in Fremont, the northern California town where these things will be made.
The drivetrain shares a lot of componentry with the Tesla Roadster, including the power control module that sits topmost in the “engine” bay and the lithium-ion battery packs that ride slung beneath the front and rear seats. Specific parts of the powertrain will be different from those in the Tesla Roadster, but we will get details on those closer to production.
The prototype RAV4 EV weighs about 3,860 pounds, which is 220 pounds more than the gasoline-powered RAV4. The extra weight comes from the lithium-ion batteries carried in two modules beneath the front and rear seats. Toyota says there are 37 kilowatt-hours of “useable” power in those batteries, no doubt referring to the top 80 percent of capacity, below which engineers prefer not dipping in order to preserve battery life. So we could probably round up battery capacity in this rig to 40 kilowatt-hours, which is substantial.
That battery is about 50 percent bigger than the one in the Leaf, and Toyota says to expect 100 miles-plus of “real-world range” despite the RAV4′s heavier curb weight.
There was a fairly high amount of regenerative braking dialed into the RAV, which really slowed the car as soon as we lifted off the accelerator. But the production version will likely have far less regen. When we suggested a thumb wheel to adjust regen on the fly, so that you could coast or decel depending on what was most efficient, we didn’t get any takers among the Toyota techs present. So don’t look for that feature come 2012.
There was no output listed for the motor on the prototype. The Tesla Roadster’s motor is 185 kilowatts, but a production SUV would almost certainly have a lower peak output than that. We’ll find out soon enough.
Despite the extra weight of the electric version, Toyota claims a 0-to-60-mph time of 9.3 seconds for the RAV4 EV, which is only a tenth slower than the smaller, lighter Nissan Leaf we just tested. Though we brought our test gear to the drive, there was nowhere on the route flat enough and straight enough to try a 0-to-60 run of our own. But it felt about that quick, maybe quicker.
The RAV4 EV felt perfectly fine accelerating away from stoplights and in pseudo-passing maneuvers. Toyota lists top speed at a more-than-adequate 100 mph.
Packaging the batteries under the floor left the luggage space unencumbered in back, one of the advantages to this relatively large vehicle. And seating for five was perfectly up to the standards of the class.
So here we sit, at least a year ahead of the coming wave of electric cars and plug-in hybrids from manufacturers all across the board. For those car buyers eager to recharge instead of refuel, that’s a long way off.
